Plow Installation

One of the major advantages of HDPE coilable duct products is the ability to be plowed in long, continuous lengths. This method of installation is practical for both single or multiple ducts, as well as FuturePath bundled ducts; as separate or multiple bundles.

PLOW / REEL METHOD

Depending on the size and number of duct reels used for placing the duct in a single pass, this method is very productive with less handling of the duct. One or more reels are mounted on the plow and the duct is guided safely over the plow tractor and fed directly into the plow chute. When the end of the reel or reels is reached, the tails are brought up and eventually coupled or joined to the starting ends of the next reel or reels. A handhole should be used to allow future access and protect the coupled ducts.

DUCT LAYOUT METHOD

The duct is carefully removed from the reel or reels – either by hand-pulling from a stationary reel or using drive-out process – and laid alongside the plow path. An operator walks adjacent to the advancing plow and carefully guides the duct into the plow chute. While a bit more labor-intensive, it eliminates the need for mounting reels directly to the plow equipment.
